Dave & Matt Vans
Content Shoot
About the Project
I partnered with Dave & Matt Vans to capture a road trip from Redmond, OR to Rifle, CO, creating a series of photo and video assets that bring the vanlife experience to life. The final deliverables were designed for social and web, focusing on immersive interior point-of-view shots, wide scenic frames, and drone footage that highlights the scale and freedom of traveling by van.

The Process
The creative brief called for 20–30 deliverables, with a focus on interior point-of-view shots that made viewers feel like they were inside the van, looking out at the landscape. I was also asked to capture wide and aerial shots featuring the van in scale, along with optional abstract or detail-oriented visuals to convey the mood of the journey. Content was delivered in a mix of vertical, square, and horizontal formats, with full creative freedom to interpret the trip through my own visual style.

I captured the van journey across a variety of landscapes, focusing on light, texture, and framing to evoke a sense of freedom and possibility. Interior shots were carefully composed to feel immersive and intimate, while wide and drone visuals showcased the van’s scale in the expansive and diverse scenery of southern Oregon and Northern California.

Vibrancy, shadows, and contrast were increased.

Behind the scenes, the shoot was a mix of spontaneous exploration and intentional framing—chasing light, pulling off backroads, and capturing moments that felt real and lived-in. I had some unforgettable experiences along the way: eating the best seafood of my life on the southern Oregon coast, discovering (and strongly disliking) Oregon’s full-service gas stations, and learning to shoot drone footage while dodging more mosquitos than I’ve ever seen—literally sprinting back to the van between bites. Having the freedom to park and sleep almost anywhere made it easier to stay close to the landscapes I wanted to capture and get back on the road early to chase the next scene.
